Help please - motor suggestion?

Hi all
I’d really appreciate some advice. I’m making a rock tumbler to polish rocks.

Can anyone suggest what motor (and any other electronics / pulleys & cogs) to use to rotate the rock tumbler barrel? The barrel will be something like the one in the link below. It will weigh approx 3kg when full of rocks. The motor will need to run continuously for weeks at a time and hence be capable of doing so and also low power usage!

Barrel link

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I think you are going to need a good quality high power motor, car windscreen whipper motors are very torquey though there gear boxes. You will need a decent high current 12volt power supply and good wiring skills such as https://oceancontrols.com.au/PSM-066.html.

You would have to fabricate a way of coupling the motor to the barrel, as for the barrel you could use a milo tin or a plastic container.

We sell a number mechanical products that could be useful such these bearing mounts

Thanks Nick!

Can you suggest an example motor (ie web link) or where / how to get one?

cheers

i hope the’s might help you a little bit or a lot

Thanks James! I’d seen the second one, but not the first. I guess using an old car window motor could be a good option … if I ca get one from somewhere …

junk dealer / wrecker is a good place or supercheap auto, auto one etc…, try using a trucks wiper or a winch from a 4 x 4.
